I designed an eye-catching poster for my colleague at the Institut Pasteur, Bas Leemburg, for his trip to Umeå in Sweden. The goal of this poster was to present his PhD work in an interesting way, so we opted for a design inspired by old-school botanical illustrations. For the illustration we focused on the molecular machinery he is researching, the Type VII secretion system and the host system he uses, Mycobacterium Marinum. We also added the actin comet tails that the bacterium forms to move inside its host system. In my eyes, the cherry on top is the addition of Bas' own handwriting to highlight interesting parts of the illustration.
